What to pack for a vacation to Mykonos Island

As many of you are already preparing for your summer trip to Mykonos, we here at Kouros Hotel and Suites Mykonos thought it would be a good idea to offer you some clever tips on what to bring with you before coming to the Island.

If you arrive in Mykonos during the summer months, it is highly advisable that you pack light. From June till late September it is quite hot and humid
(even during the night) in Mykonos so bring clothes that you know will not make you feel hot and sweaty. Shorts, linen shirts and T-shirts are recommended for men, while comfortable pants and light dresses are the way to go for the ladies . During the night people in Mikonos tend to dress more smartly and trendily than during the day. Light pants and sweaters for men and elegant dresses for women are the norm for dinner and night out. Having said that, you can also do a good deal of shopping inside the Town of Mikonos so save some space in your baggage and try not to pack heavily.
Additionally, vacating in Mikonos means spending large amounts of time under the Aegean Sun so don't forget to bring your suntan lotion and sunscreen . Swimsuits, sunglasses and flip-flops are also needed if you plan on visiting the beautiful beaches of Mikonos so make sure you get those too. Because of the high temperatures and the intensity of the Greek sun, ladies may also like to bring their Bronzer, After Sun, Moisturizer or Lip Balm. Finally, during the hot days of the summer it is common to find a lot of mosquitoes flying around in the air so it is advisable that you also pack a mosquito repellent cream.

So... what are you waiting for? Get ready! We at Kouros Hotel and Suites Mykonos are waiting to welcome you soon here in Mykonos!
So... pack and come to enjoy the view.....

Kings of Mykonos at Kouros Hotel & Suites

Our boutique hotel in Mykonos had the fantastic opportunity to accommodate 2 of the biggest Australian movie stars for the premiere of the movie "Kings of Mykonos".
Nick Giannopoulos and Vince Colosimo stayed with us this weekend for the official Greek premiere of the movie in Mykonos. Our guests had the chance to get photographed with them and get autographs, and we had the pleasure to interact with people that love our island and promote it worldwide.
This is the official movie poster with Zeta Makrypoulia, a Greek godess / actor staring in the hit movie of 2010.
Here is Mr. Giannopoulos and Mr. Colosimo being interviewed in our hotel by reporters for the Greek premiere. Our pool with our fantastic Mykonos town view and the Aegean Sea was the perfect location for their interview!

So... what does Kouros stand for??

Have you ever wondered what our hotel's name stands for?

So here is the story behind Kouros Hotel in Mykonos...

According to Wikipedia:

A kouros (plural kouroi, Ancient Greek κοῦρος) is the modern term given to those representations of male youths which first appear in the Archaic period in Greece. The term kouros, meaning (male) youth, was first proposed for what were previously thought to be depictions of Apollo by V. I. Leonardos in 1895 in relation to the youth from Keratea, and adopted by Lechat as a generic term for the standing male figure in 1904. Such statues are found across the Greek-speaking world, the preponderance of these were found in sanctuaries of Apollo with more than one hundred from the sanctuary of Apollo Ptoios, Boeotia, alone. These free-standing sculptures were typically marble, but also the form is rendered in limestone, wood, bronze, ivory and terracotta.

This essense and history of the Kouros statue is translated to our boutique hotel in Mykonos with the simple and clean design approach and the freshness of youth and elegance in our premises.

Our fabulous verandas from each and every Kouros hotel room overlooking the Aegean have a direct view of Delos island, a sacred place where many Kouros statues where found.

How to get to Mykonos

I know everyone is always unsure on how to get to Mykonos so here is a sum up guide we think can help you.

Before booking your tickets make sure first to check on charter flights coming straight to Mykonos from London, Rome, Paris or Zurich. Those charter flights are definately better priced than getting a flight to Athens and then switching into a flight for Mykonos. From time to time there are more destinations you can get a charter flight from, but it is better if you consult a travel agent for specific details.

For those getting flights to Athens (ATH) you can connect with another flight to Mykonos (JMK) which is just 20 minutes flight and here are the companies that do that and that you can book directly to them your flight:

Another way to get here from Athens instead of taking the plane is by boat. In Greece, this is a very frequent choice of transportation since there is a much fair than the airplanes.
In Athens we have TWO ports: PIRAEUS and RAFINA both reachable from the airport.

From PIRAEUS

From the airport you take the metro and change to a train (just by using one ticket) and you reach directly the port it is about 45 minute ride in total. Or you take the express bus that is about 3,5-4 euro that takes about 40minutes or less depending on the hour you are travelling. Or of course you could get a taxi with a fare approximately around 40-50 euro.

There are two types of boats that get to Mykonos. Simple boat that takes 5,5 hours and costs about 20-25euro. High speed boat that takes 4 hours and costs about 40-45 euro.

From RAFINA

From the airport I there are buses that can take you to Rafina port, or you take a taxi which is approximately a 30 minute ride to the port and costs about 30-40 euro.

There are two types of boats that get to Mykonos.Simple boat that takes 4,5 hours and costs about 18-25euro. High speed boat that takes 2.5 hours and costs about 35-45 euro. Boat companies that work for both ports and you can book online are:
http://www.bluestarferries.com/

Another link you could use to find all uploaded boat schedules for anywhere in Greece to anywhere in Greece and with direct links to the boat companies i s: http://www.gtp.gr/

We do inform you that all the prices stated in this post are approximates and the hotel cannot be responsible for third party pricing or agreements. This post is only suggestions for your assistance.

Kouros Hotel & Suites is open for 2010

The season has started and we had our first guests' arrivals!
Our hotel looks again like brand new, freshly painted and full of surprises for our repeating guests.

During this winter we had the pleasure of working with a French interior designer Ms. Fabienne Spahn. Ms. Spahn is a succesfull interior designer, decorator and event planner, having been published numerous times in Cote Sud magazines and styled a number of hotels in exotic locations.

With her precious assistance our hotel has been transformed into a luxurious Boutique hotel with a completely different artistic approach and style. A new palette of colors used in the lobby, our restaurant and the pool area changes the whole atmosphere into a cosy chic and elegant place for you to rest.
In the following week a new photo shoot will take place and you will be able to get a glimpse of our gorgeous alterations before you arrive here! This whole new rennovation -relooking approach has already been introduced to you in our official website http://www.kouroshotelmykonos.gr/
Just have a small taste of what is coming...
We are looking forward to seeing you here this season too. We are ready to provide you with an ultimate hosting experience.

Scrapbook gateaway in September 2010

A Scrapbook Getaway!
If you could put together the perfect scrapbook getaway, what would it look like? Would it be in an exotic locale? Would it have some of the most sought after instructors? Would it be at a beautiful boutique hotel? Would it be with a small group of supportive woman and with ample occasions to interact with the celebrities? Would there be lots of delicious food, great giveaways and fabulous make-n-takes and so much more! Are you visualizing a scrap getaway that is in fact a journey to remember for a lifetime? My vision of the perfect scrapbook retreat includes all those elements and we at Cocoa Daisy are about to make it a reality!
I am very excited to announce that in September of 2010 Ali Edwards, Jenni Bowlin and Karen Russell will be traveling with us and several members of the Daisy Divas to create not just a scrapbook trip but what will ultimately be an unforgettable adventure! Our event will take place at the gorgeous Kouros Hotel overlooking the blue waters of the Aegean Sea on the Greek island of Mykonos! If you’ve ever dreamed of traveling to Greece – and scrapbooking at the same time – here’s your chance!
We are keeping the event to an intimate number so that participants will not only have a chance to get to know one another and form new friendships but will really be able to interact throughout the week with some of their favorite scrapbook celebrities. Every participant will take the classes offered by each of the instructors including a 2 part photography course taught by Karen. On the last day of the event, we will all cruise to the nearby mythical island of Delos where you’ll have a chance to practice your newly acquired photography skills with Karen there to give you pointers and answer questions.
Each evening there will be a social hour where participants can kick back and relax. Afterwards we’ll break into smaller groups for dinners out with the instructors for a traditional Greek meal (and Greek dancing!) and nightly we’ll hold crops, make-n-takes and other special events (to be announced later)!
One very special thing about the Kouros Hotel besides being absolutely stunning and just completely remodeled, is the proprietress, Elina Koutsouradi. Elina is an avid scrapbooker and has herself gone on several scrapbook getaways around the world. She knows what it takes to make not only an event but a scrapbook event absolutely spectacular! What could be better than holding a getaway at a hotel owned and operated by someone who truly understands the needs of scrapbookers?

We would love to have you be part of the fun! If you’d like more information please feel free to email us at mailbox@cocoadaisy.com. Look for registration to open mid-October. If there is anything that you would like to details on (handicap accessibility, dietary restrictions, or whatever else) please feel free to email me with your questions and I would be happy tocheck on those for you while there.
I can’t wait to experience Greece with Ali, Jenni and Karen and hopefully you too!

Snacks by the pool

We have already informed you that with our recent rennovation a new restaurant area has been designed exclusively for our hotel guests. Our main concern is to provide our guests with the most delicate tastes made only with fresh Greek products that we personally handpick daily.
Besides our main meal menu with tastes of the Mediterranean we have a wide variety of light snacks and salads that you can enjoy by the pool while sunbathing or gazing the sunset.
We would like to thank Helena Virpi from Italy for her amazing photo shoot that really accents our delicacies.
Here is a glimpse of our Kouros salad. This salad combines the strong taste of arrugula leaves with the sweetness of strawberries mixed in a light honey-mustard sauce... yummie.
The well-known mozzarella sticks for those who want to snack light with their drinks.
Our version of club sandwich, using our secret sauce recipe and fresh Greek ingredients.
And this is Mykonos salad, arrugula and spinach leaves along with pine seeds, fresh cherry tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes from Santorini and the most famous Mykonian cheese, ksinotyri, which adds a strong taste to the salad and sweetens with our own balsamic sauce.
